Syracuse got DEPTH

When this article was written earlier this season: Syracuse Basketball: Orange don’t need Tyus Battle anymore. This site received a lot of flak because it sounded like a dumb hot take. Where are those people now?

Feel free to read the full take above, but here’s the gist: while unquestionably Tyus Battle is the best player on this team, Syracuse doesn’t need him to be superman anymore. In 2017-18, if Tyus didn’t drop 20 points a game nightly Syracuse probably lost.

This season, with the depth they have, Tyus can have a bad night and Syracuse can still win. Heck that article can probably even expand to the latest superhero that has come out of the shadows this season for the Orange in Elijah Hughes. Hughes only had five points vs Pitt, yet Syracuse still won.

But to really get this point across, let’s go back to earlier this season. In the Syracuse vs Miami game, the Orange won by 20 points, yet Tyus Battle was the third wheel (10 points). To consider that Syracuse blew out a team and didn’t even need Tyus’ scoring efforts just goes to show what this team can do when everyone is firing on all cylinders.
