Syracuse Basketball: Top 5 things to know about Clemson ahead of game
3. Clemson has basically five double digit scorers on offense, how special is this starting unit?
The starting unit has been very good- when healthy- offensively. The trouble has been the defense and bench scoring.
It’s just tough to find any balance in scoring when you’re having to rely on your starters for basically all but maybe 10-13 of your points per game, but that’s College Basketball for you. Marcquise Reed is currently averaging 19.6 and Shelton Mitchell has upped his average to 13.6 after having a rough start to the season. Elijah Thomas is also at 13.6 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game.
The group is starting to mesh better together- well except for the Duke game where nothing seemed to go right- and I think those starters are beginning to get more comfortable in their roles. But, it’s really tough to tell so far.
When the only sample size you have in conference play is on the road at Duke, it’s really just too early to tell what kind of team this will be and how these starters will play together as we get into the thick of the schedule.
