Neil Adler (5-3)
Prediction: Syracuse wins 76-68

Buckle up your seatbelts, boys and girls! We’ve got a bruiser occurring this Saturday afternoon, when the Syracuse basketball squad hosts former Big East Conference foe Georgetown inside the Carrier Dome. SU (6-2), fresh off a convincing home win this past Tuesday evening over Northeastern, has notched four triumphs in a row.

The Hoyas (7-1), meanwhile, have also scored four-straight successes, including a dismantling of Liberty on Monday night. So far in the 2018-19 campaign, Georgetown has only experienced a defeat once, at the hands of Loyola Marymount back in mid-November. The Hoyas, who in my humble opinion have played a fairly pedestrian non-conference schedule to date, are 1-0 on the road. The Orange, on the flip side, is 5-0 in Central New York.

This means that something will have to give when these storied rivals duke it out in a nationally televised affair, which ESPN will broadcast. Georgetown is definitely putting up more points per contest than the ‘Cuse, but the Hoyas are also allowing more scoring on defense.

ESPN.com’s match-up predictor says that Syracuse possesses an 84.9 percent chance of prevailing. That seems a bit high to me, but I do believe that SU will get viewed as the betting favorite by odds-makers out in Las Vegas. A year ago, the Orange traveled to Washington, D.C., and came away with a thrilling 86-79 overtime victory. My gut tells me that this term’s duel will also prove quite close, with the ‘Cuse finishing on top, 76-68.
