Syracuse Basketball: Predictions for Ohio State showdown
Andrew Carey (3-2)
Prediction: Buckeyes win 78-69
In my opinion, this is as close to a must-win game as you can get in the non-conference. Syracuse blew their two chance to pickup a decent non-conference win when they were in the 2K Classic in Madison Square Garden.
Now they travel to take on a good Ohio State team, who really hasn’t been tested to the same level as Syracuse so far this season. Unfortunately over the past three years, Syracuse has struggled to make it into the NCAA tournament because they simply do not have the quality wins needed.
After picking up two losses early on the season it is time for Syracuse to nail down a quality win on the road against a good team. Last year the Buckeyes made the NCAA tournament, but lost their best player to the NBA in Keita Bates-Diop. Syracuse must take advantage in the opportunity that presents itself.
They have been off for a week now, so they should be well-rested. Frank Howard has had another week to gain strength in his ankle, however Paschal Chukwu is dealing with a pulled groin. In my opinion, this may be a blessing in disguise as Chukwu has been horrendous to start the year. Last season, he was at least rebounding and active on defense. This year, he looks even more lost out there than last season. Boeheim and staff desperately need to bring in a skilled big man in the near future. Ultimately I just don’t see this team getting it done as they are limited on offense, and have not played defense to the same quality that they did last year. Orange fall to the Buckeyes, 78-69.
