Other than Pitt, the Orange have faced the UConn Huskies more than any other opponent in the school’s history. A number of the battles between Syracuse and UConn are still remembered as some of the best college basketball games ever.

Thursday’s matchup between the two schools should be competitive, but it’s not expected to end up as another classic showdown. Mostly since the Huskies are not exactly a team full of tremendous talent like they used to be during their days as a member of the Big East.

Like the Orange, UConn has won each of their first two games this season. However, the Huskies are also coming off of two straight losing seasons for the first time since 1986-87.

UConn is led by first-year head coach Dan Hurley, who previously spent time at the same position for Rhode Island and Wagner. Under his guidance in the last two seasons, Rhode Island won at least 25 games and earned two straight spots in the NCAA Tournament.

Taking on a top 15 team like Syracuse will be the Huskies first big test of the season under their new head coach. UConn will do what they can to keep the game close. But in the end, it will be the Orange’s experience and stellar defense that leads them to a victory inside Madison Square Garden.
