2. I’ve always remembered the Irish as a hard nosed defensive team, who are the straws that stir the drink for this team on that side of the ball?

"I don’t know if there’s one straw that stirs it. I’d consider this defense shaken, not stirred. Each position group compliments the other two. The defensive line constantly gets penetration and a good pass-rush, the linebackers don’t get beat sideline to sideline and the secondary has been pretty good at limiting big plays. Linebacker Drue Tranquill is the glue. Defensive tackle Jerry Tillery might be the best interior pass-rusher in the country, while linebacker Te’von Coney and corner Julian Love are both NFL-ready players who are consistently playing at an elite level from week to week. By my count, the 2018 Notre Dame defense has no fewer than nine players who will be drafted in 2019 or 2020."
