Andrew Carey 1-0

Prediction: Syracuse wins 81-57

The Syracuse defense was incredibly stingy in their first action of the season against Eastern Washington. They picked up right where they left off in 2017, forcing turnovers in the full court press, while keeping their opponents offense in check all day.

I had zero complaints from what I saw on the defensive side of the ball in game one. Where I do have some complaints is on the offensive side of the ball. Buddy Boeheim got the start in his first college career game in the Dome, and shot a dismal 1-11. He, Elijah Hughes, and Tyus Battle (who I realize is playing out of position at Point Guard), combined to shoot 6-29 from the floor. I’m willing to bet that will not happen too many times the remainder of the season.

I am looking for the offense to show major signs of life against Morehead State. I’m very confused as to why Buddy Boeheim is starting over Jalen Carey, who showed tremendous glimpses in his first game, and appears like he is well on his way to living up to the hype. Carey in the starting lineup makes so much sense, because it would slide Tyus Battle back over to his natural position as a scorer on the wing.

Lastly, I really liked the improvements that I saw out of Oshae Brissett and Marek Dolezaj on Tuesday. Brissett was finishing around the rim with authority, while Marek continues to do the dirty work, but also showed off his improved jump shot. I am very excited to see the offense look to bounce back against Morehead State.
