Prediction: Syracuse wins 49-42

This is going to be a tough game for Syracuse and by my estimation, the biggest game of the season thus far. If Syracuse wins this game on the road and proves that they are ready to take the next step and knock off conference opponents in their home stadium, then the Orange are looking at being 8-2 heading into a matchup against Notre Dame in Yankee Stadium.

Syracuse plays a mess of a Louisville team on Friday November 9th the week after this Wake game, in what should be an easy win. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, back to the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest is a mediocre football team this year. Their offense still has some of its weapons, but no longer is four year starter, John Wolford under center. True freshman Sam Hartman is the signal caller for Wake, although he is young, the Syracuse defense needs to try to get him on the ground and make his life uncomfortable as he is very capable.

Wake running back Matt Colburn ran for nearly 250 yards at Louisville last weekend, it will be a good test for the Orange defense against the experienced Colburn who runs behind an experienced Offensive Line. Lastly, Greg Dortch is the main weapon on the outside for Wake. He has blazing speed and will likely draw Scoop Bradshaw for the banged up Orange secondary. Wake has a good offense, but on the other side of the ball they are very suspect.

They have one of the worst defenses in the country and have given up 20 TDs in 21 trips to the red zone against their opponents. Syracuse and Eric Dungey are going to have to put up some points if they want to walk away with a win. Ultimately I think they do so, 49-42 Orange win.
