Syracuse Football: Clemson football gameday prediction
Andrew Carey (contributor) 3-1
This is obviously the biggest challenge of the year so far for the 4-0 Syracuse football team. Going to Clemson and coming away with a win would be unprecedented and something that could make a massive difference in how people view the program.
With the news coming out that Trevor Lawrence will start at QB for Clemson, and last year’s starter Kelly Bryant is transferring, there is a local media circus surrounding the Tigers in Greenville this week. Coach Dabo Swinney will need to make sure that he keeps his team focused and ready to take on Syracuse, and because of Bryant’s transfer I think the Orange now have a better chance.
The keys for the Syracuse offense will be keeping the Clemson front four in check. Christian Wilkins, Clelin Ferrell, and Dexter Lawrence will all need to be held in check by the Syracuse offensive line. Clemson has the best defensive line in the country, it will be massively important for Syracuse to keep Eric Dungey upright throughout the game.
Defensively, the Orange line needs to get to Lawrence early and often. Make him uncomfortable from the get-go and Chris Fredrick, Andre Cisco, and Antwan Cordy will need to continue to make plays in the back end if the Orange defense intends to keep the offense in striking distance. Lastly, I want to see an outside receiver emerge for Syracuse. Jamal Custis, Taj Harris, or maybe it is Devin Butler. Somebody needs to step up and make big plays in the passing game if Syracuse expects to win. Ultimately I think Clemson comes out on top 35-27.
