The Notre Dame Fighting Irish chose…interesting uniforms for their upcoming game with the Syracuse football team at Yankees Stadium.

In case Notre Dame couldn’t piss off Syracuse football fans any more, they may have just done so. And the season hasn’t even started yet.

According to Notre Dame football, the Fighting Irish will wear ‘Yankee inspired’ uniforms during their game against Syracuse on November 17th at Yankee Stadium.

This is just wrong on way too many levels.

Lets start with the obvious.

Notre Dame FOOTBALL is not New York Yankees BASEBALL. Mixing sports is never a good idea for jerseys, because, well, they’re not the same sport. Duh. Such an easy concept to understand, and yet Notre Dame found a way to butcher it.  Ouch.

Now lets go to another easy thing to understand: not all Notre Dame fans are Yankees fans. And from the flip side, not all Yankees fans support the Irish.

Now yes, there are a plentiful amount of the Notre Dame faithful in New York. However, Notre Dame is located in Indiana. At least choose a team relatively close to South Bend, *cough cough*, Chicago Cubs or White Sox.

Oh don’t worry, I’m not done yet. In fact, I probably won’t be done until this game is over and through with, so lets keep moving on.

Perhaps the dumbest part of this uniform change is the fact that it is quite literally the ugliest and most childlike creation Notre Dame could have come up with. No, this is not an exaggeration.

For starters, the Notre Dame symbol will be placed over Yankee pinstripes on the helmet. Perhaps it will attract South Bend tourists at the game, as it really resembles a logo that a street seller in Times Square would come up with. Lackluster creativity to say the least.

On top of this, the uniforms will also loudly feature pinstripe sleeves AND pants. Nope, sadly this isn’t a joke.

I don’t know if Notre Dame got confused that we’re getting together for a football game and not a baseball game. After all, we don’t exactly have the assets to meet up on the diamond.

Whatever the reasoning for this was, I just don’t understand it. And I’m not even gonna try to.

At this point, you’re probably wondering “Why is Mat so upset?”, and I’m here to tell you. From opinions of the Notre Dame fans I am close too, they absolutely love these uniforms. That just disgusts me.

It really all goes back to when ‘Cuse and Notre Dame faced off in 2016 at the Meadowlands – aren’t we all glad that’s over.  The teams practically scored 100 points within the first 10 minutes of play, ultimately with Notre Dame coming away with the win. However, what was even worse was the fact that the Fighting Irish really thought that they owned New York.

Yes, their fans came out in droves.  No, ours did not. Maybe Yankee Stadium will change that – the commute will be shorter for Syracuse fans in the city. However, we need to show Notre Dame that Syracuse IS ‘New York’s College Team’.

Am I asking that the Orange wear New York Knicks inspired uni’s to counter? That’s a strong no.  However, I am asking that Syracuse kindly reminds Notre Dame which college team runs New York.

This will start by wearing respectable Orange and Blue football uniforms on gameday. It will be completed with a win over Notre Dame.
