Which former Syracuse Basketball star has best chance at NBA stardom?
Tyler Lydon got a slap of reality this past season. He thought he was going to get a ton of playing time and well he didn’t. On one hand he was drafted into the first round, which continued the legendary first round streak of the basketball team. But on the other he figured out that most players who are drafted outside the top-15 are immediately shoved down into the G-League.
He played in only one game (for about two minutes) in the actual NBA. Lydon actually spent most of his time in the G-League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (15 games). Tyler was serviceable playing in over 30 minutes a game with a respectable 12 points per contest.
At Syracuse, Jim Boeheim said that Lydon was one of the best centers he has ever had. Lydon had a three point shot, length, and intelligence. We didn’t get much of an opportunity to see that at the next level last season. That’s of course because Lydon suffered a dramatic knee injury that cost him the rest of the season.
Lydon is a guy that has a ton of potential, the problem is the Denver Nuggets are overloaded at forward. So I think he can reach his potential, but to do that, he may have to be dealt to a team that can better utilize his services.
