Which former Syracuse Basketball star has best chance at NBA stardom?

2013. . PG. Charlotte Hornets. MICHAEL CARTER-WILLIAMS

As the video indicates above, what the heck happened to Michael Carter-Williams? In his rookie campaign with the Philadelphia 76ers, it seems like MCW trusted the process. He won Rookie of the Year with this phenomenal stat line: with nearly 17 points per game, two steals, over six assists, six rebounds, with a 40% clip from the field.

But nearly every season after that rookie campaign his numbers have exponentially decreased:

  • 2013: 16.7 ppg
  • 2014: 14.6 ppg
  • 2015: 14.1 ppg
  • 2016: 11.5 ppg
  • 2017: 6.6 ppg
  • 2018: 4.6 ppg

Have the Monstars flown down in a weird sequel to Space Jam and taken MCW’s powers? Because if not, there doesn’t seem to be a rational explanation for this decrease.

MCW is a lanky player at 6-foot-6, 190 pounds. He was the quintessential piece in the 2-3 zone at the top because of that length and his instincts. The wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tubeman strategy was good for a handful of steals every game.

On top of the exponential decrease in stats, MCW has also been kicked around the league. He’s currently on his fourth team with the Charlotte Bobcats. At 26 years of age, he isn’t quite in his prime so perhaps he can realize his potential in 2018.
