MALACHI RICHARDSON. 2016. . SG. Toronto Raptors

Let’s start the list with a recent Syracuse grad. Malachi Richardson wasn’t with the Orange long, being only one-and-done. But that one year was pretty spectacular: averaging over 13 points per contest, two plus assists, four rebounds and some change.

But let’s be honest, it’s not what Richardson did in the regular season, it’s what he displayed in the March Madness tournament. It is a moment that will live in Syracuse basketball fan’s heads forever.

Syracuse was down 15 points and Richardson dropped dimes left and right and displayed a NBA-like step back jumper. That’s all it took for Richardson to rise from relative unknown to bonafide first round draft pick (22nd overall pick).

Although getting drafted was a bittersweet experience. On one hand being a first round pick guarantees you millions of dollars. On the other hand it was the Sacramento Kings. In his two years in the league he got playing time with the Kings, gets traded to the Toronto Raptors and now has a pivotal summer with the Raptors 905 (G-League affiliate). Prognosis? Richardson has a ton of upside, but it seems he’s a few years away from being a ‘star’.
