. F. Oklahoma City Thunder. CARMELO ANTHONY. 2003

The most recognizable former Orange star is easily Carmelo Anthony. I mean how can Syracuse fans not love him? Melo delivered SU’s lone National Championship and then jumped into the 2003 NBA Draft.

He’s one of the greatest scorers of all-time and that’s not hyperbole. While Melo has been all about the flash throughout his career, he’ll be remembered for choosing money over championship opportunities.

Carmelo forced his way out of Denver, chose a fat new extension with the New York Knicks, then was forced out of town to Oklahoma City. Now he has opted into his final year which is worth just under $28 million.

That decision will hamper the Thunder’s chances of putting a championship caliber team together, that’s not a matter of opinion. So what is Melo’s legacy? He’s coming off of a career low in points, free throw percentage, free throw attempts, and two point field goal percentage. Knowing those stats, it’s no surprise he opted in for that money.
