Former Syracuse basketball star Andrew White joined Boy Green on ‘Drive Time Sports’ to reminisce about the good ole days at SU.

While Andrew White only had one season with the Syracuse basketball team, it’ll be one remembered forever. AW3 scored over 18 points a game, was automatic from the charity stripe (84%), and had one of the best three point shooting seasons ever.

Not too bad for one season with the team. Especially when you consider how many legends have come through the University of Syracuse.

Well to reminisce a bit about the good old days and talk about his youth basketball camp coming up at the end of June, AW3 joined Boy Green on ‘Drive Time Sports’ to talk about why he chose the Orange, the pressure of being a grad-transfer, and his proudest moment with the Cuse:

So why did Andrew White ultimately pick Syracuse?

"“I talked to coach (Jim) Boeheim while he was at the Olympics for most of the recruiting process. He basically just gave me an opportunity that was hard to turn down. He likes shooters, he likes wings with length and athleticism. I think just based off of the roster he had, it would’ve been a golden opportunity. It was everything I expected and they did a wonderful job of grooming my skills. They just put me on a platform for where I ultimately wanted to be. So I’ll always be thankful for the coaches, the staff, and everyone for getting me ready for my pro career.”"

What was the challenge and pressure like of coming into a situation where you only had one year to get everything you wanted too accomplished?

"“I just put the pressure on myself during the recruiting process and made sure that I came in ready. There wasn’t a lot of time to prove myself. I needed to be sharp and ready to execute as soon as I got in the door. So starting from right around the time I graduated from Nebraska, I really started tuning up my game so that I’d be ready when I got to Syracuse. I put that pressure on myself everyday. The coaches did an awesome job of getting me up to speed when I got on campus, so when I got on the court I didn’t feel any pressure. Because let’s be honest, that’s something I asked for coming into Syracuse. A lot of people ask for things and they aren’t ready to seize them, I wasn’t going to be that guy and I wanted to play to the best of my abilities.”"

So you end up picking SU and have one of the greatest three point seasons we’ve ever seen on the hill. Be honest with me Andrew, did you envision yourself having that kind of success?

"“I didn’t honestly. I kind of left the season open-ended, in terms of my expectations. But when you look back at it, second in the ACC in scoring and to break the single season three point record, that was something I really didn’t have in the back of my mind. I never put a limit or cap to myself or what I can accomplish. So looking back on it, it’s not too surprising. But it all falls back on my teammates and coaches. They put me in an opportunity where it was hard to fail, so I would attribute that success to a lot of other people instead of just myself.”"

What’s the proudest moment of your career at Syracuse? I know you only played one season, but it was a magical one certainly.

"“The proudest moment was probably Senior night. I had about eight people from my immediate and extended family come up for that game. Obviously that was a game we were hoping would get us over the top for the tournament. That was a big game at the time, we had 30,000 at the dome, and to score 40 points and hit eight threes was a huge moment for me and the team.”"
