The Syracuse basketball squad pulled off a monster comeback versus Georgetown this past weekend, a feat which I witnessed in person and will never forget.

Few things get me more stoked than when SU duels with former Big East foe Georgetown in our nation’s capital.

Washington, D.C., where I’ve lived most of my adult life, is one of the largest ‘Cuse alumni bases in the country.

Therefore, on every occasion that Syracuse travels to the Hoyas, there is a super sea of Orange permeating throughout the city’s Chinatown neighborhood before the contest commences, and after it concludes.

I absolutely love it.

During the game itself, I definitely noticed more Georgetown fans in attendance than SU ones. No surprise there, as the Hoyas are the home outfit.

The student section rocked, particularly for the bulk of the match-up when Georgetown had the advantage. I saw multiple signs of head coach Jim Boeheim picking his … nose.

Totally hilarious.

On the flip side, as our beloved boys from Central New York began to claw their way back from a huge deficit, the Orange contingent inside Capital One Arena got louder and louder.

Truly a sight to see.

I have to admit, I had a bad feeling for the majority of this epic event.

The Hoyas (8-1) clearly had the upper hand over the ‘Cuse (9-1). They performed better and certainly deserved to win.

But, in the end, they didn’t.

As has transpired in other previous instances of the 2017-18 campaign, Syracuse got punched in the stomach, and it didn’t fold. Grit. Guts. Toughness.

Wow.

After intermission, Georgetown created some separation and managed to possess a double-digit lead for what seemed like an eternity. The ‘Cuse couldn’t decrease its hole below seven points.

I utterly prepared myself for an inevitable defeat.

Then, however, SU finally shrank the margin to five. A 3-pointer brought it to two. A steal and layup by junior point guard Frank Howard made the affair tied.

We had a golden opportunity to seal the deal in regulation, but came up short. I declared to my brother and friends with me that the Hoyas would probably triumph in overtime, especially considering that sophomore wing Tyus Battle had four fouls.

Man, did I call that wrong.

Battle stroked two from downtown early in the extra session, Syracuse clamped down on defense, and JB’s bunch secured a seven-point victory.

Tremendous.

Sure, my heart raced a ton for a long stretch. I lost my voice a bit from screaming so much.

All worth it.

Battle, Howard and freshman forward Oshae Brissett are studs. Plain and simple. Other guys, like redshirt freshman forward Matthew Moyer and freshman forward Marek Dolezaj, solidly chipped in.

A team effort, to say the least.

I’m extremely proud of ‘Cuse Nation. I’m praying that we don’t suffer a letdown this Tuesday night when Buffalo (7-3) comes to the Carrier Dome.

What happened last Saturday afternoon is an experience I will always treasure, and I can’t wait until the Orange plays yet again in D.C. against its storied rival, Georgetown.
