We continue our Syracuse football staff predictions for Week 5. The Orange couldn’t get their skin last week, can they do it this week?

The Syracuse football team sits at the same spot that they did last season, 2-2. They should be 4-0, but they’re not. Many expected them to be 3-1 at this point so they have to make up for the Middle Tennessee game. Before the season I considered this a 50-50 game.

NC State’s defense is elite, specifically that front seven led by Bradley Chubb. He’s a future NFL pro and he dominated last week. I’m afraid of that defense, it’s uber talented. But even with that I think SU is going to throw everything and the kitchen sink and I think they get this game. The trick plays worked for the Orange last week, maybe thunder can strike in the same place twice. We also need to see the running game come back, I don’t need 300 yards, but 100 yards would be nice. SU wins a last second buzzer beater 31-30.

The Syracuse football squad looks to get back on the right track when it heads out on the road this Saturday afternoon to face N.C. State. As we all know by now, the Orange (2-2) gave No. 25 LSU a tough battle in Baton Rouge this past weekend before falling in a heart-breaking manner, 35-26.

The Wolfpack (3-1), meanwhile, picked up a strong 27-21 victory over then No. 12 Florida State in Tallahassee last time out. In all honesty, I don’t have a good feeling about SU’s chances versus N.C. State, particularly because this is an away affair (and our boys are a heavy underdog). I’ll go with the Wolfpack in this one, although I’m hopeful the ‘Cuse will keep it close. N.C. State ultimately triumphs, 31-24.

This game will be huge in determining where Syracuse will end up this season. Barring injuries and walking away with a win would likely mean that the Orange should make a bowl game. Syracuse will have to key in on NC State’s running backs and wide receiver. Defensive end Bradley Chubb is the Wolfpack’s best player on defense, and the Orange offensive line will need to protect Eric Dungey if they want any chance of winning this game. Ultimately NC State’s experience is too much and the Orange fall by a score of 35-28

Reviewing the Syracuse scope of opponents had this one in the W column after last weeks games the Wolfpack is a tad tougher opponent than at first glance. With that being said the Orange are a better team (at least the one that played in the Bayou). This will be a hard fought contest that will come down to the end. My prediction is 34-32 with an Orange victory as Dungey and the OITNF rebound after a disappointing loss.

Honestly, I think this will be another tough game for the Orange. NC State just won at Florida State which doesn’t happen often so they’ll be flying high. However, I think a team can overlook their next opponent after a huge win like that. That will present the Syracuse Orange with a chance to win this game.

Syracuse is really starting to click now, and if the offense can get more consistent that they can beat anybody if given the chance. I think the Orange will play a good game and squeak out a win 24-21 on the road. They need to win this one because the next couple coming up are pretty much all ranked in the Top 25 so. Let’s Go Orange!
