Syracuse Football: Top 5 Plays of Week 4 Versus LSU (video highlights)

1. Dungey Throws Acrobatic Pass to Ravian Pierce
Talk about special plays! This play was one of the best I’ve seen anywhere. However, let me give some context first. The Orange were rallying big time down only nine to LSU with under 10 minutes to play, 28-19. They needed a touchdown or some kind of score on this drive to make sure they could have a chance at the upset.
The Orange had just faced a fourth down play in their own territory and got it. Then on third down a few plays later the Orange made this play to keep the drive alive.
Dungey was back in the shotgun with the running back next to him on his left. After the snap, the running back pushed forward to help block the left side while Dungey read the field. However, the running back missed his assignment as the defender blew right past him forcing Dungey to fake a pass and tuck it.
The LSU defender got an arm around Dungey’s waist as he blew by him but couldn’t bring him down. Dungey then tucked the ball a moment and moved forward five yards to get in his throwing stance once again. However, he has another defender uncovered in front of him who had put his hands up to try and block the pass.
Almost instinctively, Dungey channeled his best Tim Tebow impression and went airborne. It looked at the time like he was doing a layup in basketball even though we all knew it was a pass. He jumped in the air almost on a dime when he saw the defender coming at him with arms raised and heaved a light pass over the defenders outstretched arms.

The pass flew by those arms towards open Syracuse tight end Ravian Pierce. Pierce though saw the pass was going to a little high so he summoned all he could and reached out as high as he could with one arm to try and haul it in. He got a hand on it miraculously and brought it down with control to the ground for a first down and a marvelous completion.
It was a pretty unreal sight to see. This play kept the drive alive in which Syracuse would score another touchdown. That touchdown would get the Orange within two points with under five minutes to play.
