Syracuse Football: Top 5 Plays of Week 4 Versus LSU (video highlights)
By Josh Peelman
5. Dungey 14-yard run for Touchdown
Quarterback Eric Dungey did not get a lot of great looks to run against LSU. However on this play Dungey found some room and made the Tigers pay.
As he has done many times this year, Dungey took the snap from the shotgun at the 14 yard line with a running back beside him. He did not fake the handoff on this play, but instead rolled out to the left carrying the ball in two hands he looked like he might throw it. That made the LSU defense reluctant to go after him and leave someone open in the end zone.
They should have known better. Dungey kept running around to that right side so he could get near the sideline. After a few yards running along the sideline, they finally caught up to Dungey. Unfortunately for the Tigers it was a little to late and Dungey was already lunging for the pylon. Next thing you know it was touchdown Syracuse.
Now this play doesn’t sound all that spectacular as we’re used to Dungey making great plays with his feet. However, this play meant so much more considering the context.
The Orange were behind but were rallying. They has just previously scored a touchdown on a trick play. Next, they forced a safety. Then, this drive happened resulting in the play and score by Dungey. The score made it a 19-28 and got the Orange right back in the game.
In addition, the LSU defense is better than any other defense Syracuse Football has played yet, so any running score against that defensive line is impressive. So all in all it deserves to be on the list for the Top 5 plays this week.
