Syracuse Football hopes to create what LSU has with home field advantage

The Syracuse football team goes to the road for the first time this season against LSU. But can the Orange take notes when they’re down in Nola?

The loudhouse isn’t what it used to be for the Syracuse football squad, that’s obvious. But in their first road game of the season this Saturday, the Orange will visualize their dreams.

"“Visualize this,” Dino Babers said via Syracuse.com. “You’re in the Carrier Dome. Your house is filled. The feeling is electric. The noise is deafening.”"

Talk about a throwback, that was Babers back at his initial press conference when he took the job at Syracuse. While I remember hearing him describe this to us live and I was pumped and ready for football season in December.

Fast forward a year and a half and we’ve yet to see that description of the Carrier Dome. What comes first the chicken or the egg?

back to create that atmosphere so the Orange can win with a home field advantage?

Who knows, but what’s true is that regardless we haven’t seen the loudhouse truly rock the way it can in decades. Well hopefully the Orange are taking good notes during their first road game of the season and boy it’s a doozy.

While SU will be traveling to play in Death Valley to play the LSU Tigers. If that wasn’t enough the Tigers just got blown out by Mississippi State which means the Tigers should be angry and focused heading into this ballgame.

What’s known as ‘Tiger Stadium’ can hold 100,000+ in capacity. While last season, LSU ranked third in all of SEC in average attendance per home game (101,231), per the SEC.

As noted already, SU brought in over 33,000 fans in last Saturday’s game against Central Michigan. Not even a third of what LSU brings in. Clearly football is perceived differently from down south to up north.

While when Babers was asked about the home field advantage in his weekly presser, he didn’t hide his praise:

"“They have a great home field advantage. While I’ve never been there, I’ve heard coaches talk about it and say how difficult it is. We’re looking forward to our opportunity to go try. It’s definitely a bucket list item for coaches to visit.”"

While SU will never have 100,000+ in the dome, they can try to take some notes on improving the pregame atmosphere. Schools like LSU and Notre Dame have traditions and every Saturday feels like an experience. SU doesn’t have that and when the football team’s play is poor, what are you left with? Not a whole heck of a lot. It’s up to both the team and the fanbase to work together to turn things around in Central New York.
