The Syracuse hoops squad got a dose of terrific news when Buddy Boeheim revealed that he will suit up for his Dad at SU next year.

Jim Boeheim will get to coach one of his sons at Syracuse.

And, as a father myself, I couldn’t feel happier for the legendary boss of the Syracuse basketball team.

Although not a surprise in the least, Buddy Boeheim, JB’s younger son, took to Twitter to announce that he will don an Orange uniform beginning with the 2018-19 campaign.

Buddy, a fast-rising prospect in the 2018 class who possesses a ridiculous shooting stroke, held offers from other schools, including Gonzaga, which made it all the way to the 2017 national championship game.

Still, I highly doubt that anyone in the SU community figured Buddy would go to a college or university not named Syracuse.

His older brother, Jimmy, chose Cornell, where he is currently a freshman. I penned a column several months ago, in which I wrote that Jimmy electing to attend the Big Red proved the right decision for him.

By extension, I believe that Buddy picking the ‘Cuse is the best outcome for him.

I can only imagine how proud their father is at this juncture.

With Buddy set to join the Orange in 2018-19, it’s all but certain that Jim Boeheim will remain SU’s head coach for a minimum of five more years. I love that.

Some people might think that Buddy is getting parental favoritism in landing at Syracuse for his

collegiate career.

Nothing is further from the truth. Buddy, who will compete this season for the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., is one of the top 3-point specialists in his class.

While not rated by many of the national recruiting services, the 247Sports Composite lists him at 186th overall across the country. He’s a three-star guy who can line up at both shooting guard and small forward.

In other words, Buddy isn’t merely the son of a head coach at a college-powerhouse program. He’s a legit stud who should see significant court time. Plus, JB will not treat his son any differently than his other players.

Scholarship count?

While it appears that Buddy’s presence on the SU roster will not count against the ‘Cuse’s scholarship limit. So that leaves two schollies remaining for the 2018 class.

Buddy and five-star forward Darius Bazley are already on board. East Carolina transfer Elijah Hughes becomes eligible in 2018-19. Four-star guard Jalen Carey just visited the Syracuse campus (as did Bazley). Fellow four-star guard Eric Ayala will travel to the Hill next month.

While others, like Dimon Carrigan, Louis King and Nate Roberts, remain in the mix for the 2018 class. It’s safe to say that the 2018-19 term, and beyond, could prove special.

Finally, consider this: should the Orange match up against Central New York neighbor Cornell a season from now, JB and Buddy will face off with Jimmy.

That, my friends, is pretty darn cool.
