Syracuse Orange: UFC star Jon Jones wanted to be a police officer?

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 5: New York City Police (NYPD) officers attempt to clear the street of immigration activists protesting the Trump administration's decision on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals on 5th Avenue near Trump Tower, September 5, 2017. On Tuesday, the Trump administration announced they will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, with a six month delay. In a recent interview, UFC star and local Syracuse Orange legend Jon Jones said he wanted to be a police officer of all things? ITLH discusses…

For those who don’t know, the Jones family is pretty famous in Central New York. Two of the Jones boys played for the Syracuse Orange football team a few years ago.

That of course was Arthur Jones (current NFL free agent) and NFL superstar Chandler Jones. Both brothers have world championships with the Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots respectively.

But this story is about the third Jones brother, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. What a roller coaster ride for the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He’s been argued as the pound for pound best MMA fighter of all time.

Although recently he’s run into some trouble with drugs and off the mat issues that has put his legacy and career in jeopardy. Which we can’t say enough is a sad and disappointing story. But believe it or not, Jones didn’t always want to be a mixed martial artist.

Ironically he wanted to be a member of the law enforcement. We learned of this fun fact, in a

recent interview on Scoop B Radio with Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson.

You can listen to the full interview in the link above, here’s a snippet of that conversation here via RESPECT Magazine:

"Jon ‘Bones’ Jones: While I know it’s not the most popular profession. But, being a cop is cool to me. While these guys are here to serve and protect, there the one’s that rescue your mom when you’re not there, help your grandma when she falls down. I look for the good guys in the law enforcement agencies and what they have to offer."

Welp…

Well with his recent streak of issues, perhaps he’ll have to start looking for another job sooner rather than later. The UFC is visibly frustrated with defending one of its’ brightest stars and for Jones to continue to burn them and make them look bad.

If the most recent transgression proves true, it’ll feel like I’ve lost one of my true idols growing up. This is a guy I looked up too. Someone that defied the odds and overcame a lot. This would be reminiscent of Lance Armstrong tumbling down years ago.

Jones was this idealistic human being. Someone that never did anything wrong and seemed like the perfect person. All celebrities appear that way and the media is partly to blame putting these athletes on these pedestals that kids and fans worship like gods.

Then the reality hits that the Utopia were fed isn’t what it seems and the establishment comes crashing down. Call it naive or perhaps my inner innocence hoping that Jones is innocent, but I still feel like he was honest in his comeback. While we won’t know for some time Jones’ future. The UFC behemoth will continue with or without Jones in the picture.
