Syracuse Orange: UFC Star Jon Jones flagged by USADA
Syracuse Orange story to report on a Tuesday night. UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones was flagged by the USADA. ITLH breaks it down.
This is a bit outside the box for ITLH, but this story has scents of Syracuse Orange everywhere. Although unfortunately it’s nothing good to report.
UFC 214 was a little over three weeks ago. This writer, always a fan at heart, excitedly cranked out an article chronicling the beat down that the youngest of the Jones boys put on his arch nemesis Daniel Cormier.
He beat DC so badly that during Joe Rogan’s post fight interview he was crying like a little PAB and wasn’t really sure where he was.
Jon Jones magnanimous in victory credited Daniel for pushing him to the limits. Jon stated prior to the fight “I need to win this fight. I need to get my life back.” – Jon Jones.
And after the fight Jon’s first words were ‘I made it back’. Well apparently as fast as Jon Jones is, he cannot outrun his demons.
Breaking news, according to TMZ Sports Jon Jones failed his post UFC 214 drug test and has been stripped of his title.

Under the UFC Anti-Doping Policy, there is a full and fair legal process that is afforded to all athletes before any sanctions are imposed. The California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) also retains jurisdiction over this matter as the sample collection was performed the day before Jones’ bout at UFC 214 in Anaheim, CA, and USADA will work to ensure that the CSAC has the necessary information to determine its proper judgment of Jones’ potential anti-doping violation.Additional information will be provided at the appropriate time as the process moves forward.According to the press release, the title hasn’t been stripped yet. Also it appears due and legal processes will take place before anything is official."
Back to the piece:
The previous positive test in 2016 prior to UFC 200 resulted in a year- long ban. There is no telling how long this ban will be, initial projections range from four years to a lifetime suspension.

As a longtime fan of Jon I am less concerned about the length of suspension and more about the man. One can only hope that he remembers the meaning of the tattoo on his chest, a bible passage Philippians 4:13 which states ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ and rids himself of the enemy within.
It turns out there was something in the water, however apparently it is banned from the UFC.
