UFC 214 was a fantastic card Saturday night and it was highlighted by Jon ‘Bones’ Jones reclaiming his UFC Light Heavy Weight Championship Belt.

UFC 214 was the most stacked card from top to bottom in the history of the UFC.  From the first match-up with Volkan Oezdemir which lasted a whopping 22 seconds as Volkan lived up to his moniker “No Time” as he knocked out his opponent in less time than a 30 second 5 million dollar Super Bowl Commercial, to the fight this series has led up to Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones.

As we have chronicled Jon ‘Bones’ Jones is his own toughest opponent and Daniel Cormier is the bully that despite having been soundly beaten by Jones continued to taunt, mock, call out while he was on suspension and wearing Jon’s belt that was stripped from him while never having beaten him.

The most quotable quotes leading up to this fights were:

"“This is a kid who has long needed to be put in his place.  I am the person to do it.” – Daniel Cormier.   “I need to win this fight, I need to get my life back.” – Jon Jones.   And finally after two and a half years it was time to “Get it On”."

Jon smiled as he walked to the ring in the best shape he’s been in years.  He seemed at ease as if he had defeated his demons once and for all.  He embraced his brothers and father who were sitting ring side; all in all it looked like ‘Bones’ had turned back time erasing the trials and tribulations of the past several years.

Conversely Cormier walked/ran to the ring with a grimace on his face and looking wound tight; less like the Champion and more like a desperate man with something to prove.

One was fighting for his legacy, Joe Rogan stating a victory for Cormier would put him down as one

of the greatest fighters in the history of the UFC, the other fighting for Redemption.  As they approached the center of the ring for their instructions DC looked angry, Jon looked amused.  Shockingly they touched gloves when given the opportunity by Big John.

The first round of the fight was dominated by Jones as he took Cormier down briefly and threw some of his patented elbows as Cormier.  Daniel responded with a late flurry but unquestionably the round was won by Jon.  The second round was closer with Cormier pressing the action, Jon content to counterpunch throwing numerous shots to the body.

Midway through the third round the end started with a head kick or more appropriately a shin to the chin of the bogus champion it ended with repeated elbows to the head and Big John stepping in to mercifully stop the fight.

Daniel Cormier was still discombobulated as he left the Octagon and did not participate in the official announcement of the winner.   Like the true bully he is, during post fight interview he was crying like a baby and made the most accurate statement for years when he stated:

"‘It can’t be a rivalry since I lost both fights’."

The moment Redemption occurred when Bruce Buffer announced ‘Now and again the New Light-Heavyweight Champion of the World’!  Jon’s first words were ‘I made it back’.  He thanked his supporters and his haters acknowledging that the past several years it was hard to root for him.  Gracious in his victory he thanked DC for pushing him and even searched him out and embraced him.

The night wouldn’t be complete without a portend of the future; the new Champions last words he called out Brock Lesnar the on-again-off again UFC fighter and WWE Superstar telling him if he wanted to get his butt kicked by someone 40 pounds lighter to bring it.

Well it seems like Redemption is here and that McGregor-Mayweather won’t be the last Circus event in our future.

It turns out there was something in the water.
