Orr was special because he was Jim Boeheim’s first recruit as Head coach, according to Orangehoops.org. He would be a prime example of the future of what Boeheim would want a player to be like in his signature 2-3 zone. Along with Roosevelt Bouie, they would form the Bouie ‘N Louie Show which would lead Syracuse to a 100-18 record over the course of four years. The two were a great one-two punch as both were great shooters who could rebound with the nation’s best.

Orr really grabbed the nation’s attention when he posted a 15 point, 20 rebound performance against American University during his sophomore season. His senior year, which coincidentally was also the Big East’s inaugural season was Orr’s best. He led Syracuse to the Big East’s First Regular Season Championship while averaging 16 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, according to Sport-reference.com.

In addition, Orr received All-American honors and was named to the All-Big East First Team. He would go on to be drafted by the Indiana Pacers with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the 1980 NBA Draft.

Orr is considered among the best players to ever play for Syracuse Basketball. Syracuse honored his achievements by retiring his #55 uniform along with Roosevelt Bouie’s in 2015. He sits 25th on Syracuse’s All-Time Leading scorer’s list. Overall, Orr averaged 12.8 points, and 7.6 rebounds a game. He will be remembered for not only being an excellent rebounder and scorer for SU, but for also being a good teammate who fans would grow to adore.
