Part Four Something In The Water:The Meteoric Rise of Jon ‘Bones’ Jones
This storyline is going to be a little outside the normal box for ITLH . The next part of this series will discuss the meteoric rise of Jon Jones.
Now it’s time to discuss the youngest of the Jones family. As a huge mixed martial arts fan and having lived in central New York for a decade Jon ‘Bones’ Jones is our families favorite.
His contribution to the Jones trophy wing at Union-Endicott High School was as a Junior he won third in the state of New York wrestling at 189 pounds, he came back his senior year to win State Championship honors. The fun fact about his nickname came from a sport he did not excel in. His high school football coach dubbed him ‘Bones’ for his slight frame.
He went on to Iowa Central Community College where he won a National Championship in JUCO. He then ended his collegiate career opting to pursue his dream in MMA.
Jon quickly announced his professional debut rattling off six wins over his three months of professional competition. The UFC sat up and took notice signing the young man from Central New York in the summer of 2008.
His dominance continued notching up win after win in impressive fashion. The names of his opponents are a who’s who in the light-heavy weight division: Ryan Bader, Rashad Evans, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Vitor Belfort and the list goes on and on.
One sole “loss”…

Dana White stated should be a no-contest. Jones’ accolades go on-and-on totaling 22 victories with one dubious defeat.
On March 19, 2011 as Jon was heading to meditate in advance of his fight, he spotted someone breaking into a vehicle. The robber spotting Jones took flight as Jones and a few members of his entourage gave chase.
The future hall of famer foot-swept the alleged thief knocking him to the ground and restraining him until authorities could arrive. A few hours later the referee stepped in and halted the bout halfway through the third round as Maurico “Shogun” Rua was the second person that day to recognize you could run but you can’t hide from the young superstar.
