Syracuse football (The Arthur Jones Story) is a continuing thread of a four-part series. On this edition Paul A. Esden Sr talks about Chandler Jones.

This storyline is going to be a little outside the normal box for “Inside the Loud House”.  This will be a four part series discussing the Jones family from Endicott, New York.  I am sure that Pastor Arthur Jones had no idea when they were sitting around the Sunday dinner table that all three of his sons would end up being World Champions but that is what happened.  We will break down his sons in the coming weeks, two of which laced up their cleats for the Syracuse Orange.

If you missed, Part One and Two you can read them below:

Chandler Jones is the middle of the Jones Championship Triplets.  He was born in Rochester, New York, later moving to Endicott. Like his brother before him, he played for Union-Endicott High School.  Chandler played both sides of the ball and excelled at both. That may not be surprising when you consider perhaps there’s something in the water. He played Tight End, averaging over seventeen yards per reception.

More from All-Time Lists

On the defensive side, he recorded 70 tackles, seven sacks, and  two forced fumbles. He was recognized as the eighth best prospect in New York state.

Chandler is the member of the Jones family that I have seen compete the most.  My family moved to Central New York in 2008. We attended our first game in the Dome the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

We watched him excel as a three-year letterman. Although, he redshirted as a freshman, he made improvements in each of his three years. We saw him first go on to earn Big East honors as an honorable mention in 2009. Next, second team selection in 2010, and lastly All Big East in 2011. That honor is the most impressive because he played in only seven games due to injury.

Forgoing his Senior season, he put up impressive numbers at the combine. He had a sub 4.9 forty-yard dash, a 35 inch vertical leap, and bench pressed 225 pounds- 22 times.

Identified as one of the top defensive prospects in the 2012 draft, he was the twenty first selection. He was chosen in the first round by the New England Patriots, led by defensive guru Bill Bellichick.

The middle Jones brother went on to make an immediate impact for the Pats with a unique feat that will more than likely will never happen again. In his first two games of his professional career he had two quarterback strip sacks resulting in recovery by his team for a touchdown, according to Pro-Football-Reference.com

He went on to play four years as a New England Patriot achieving impressive numbers. He had 211 tackles and 36 sacks. In his third year, 2014, he joined the Championship ring of the Jones family when the Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks.

Personal excellence followed with a 2015 Pro Bowl selection and was recognized by his fellow players as the number 48 best player in the league in 2015.

In March 2016, the Patriots traded Chandler to the Arizona Cardinals.  He started every game of the 2016 campaign for the Cardinals racking up 11 sacks and four forced fumbles.

Next: There Must Be Something In The Water (Arthur Jones)

Arizona was quick to recognize his special talent and franchise tagged him prior to locking him up with a 5 year deal worth over 80 million.  This will ensure that the Cardinals will continue to benefit from that ‘something in the water’ talent from Endicott, NY for years to come.

See you for Part 4…
