The Syracuse basketball team fell victim to the #AndCounting streak, 94-64. The UConn Huskies proved too much for the Orange tonight.

The Syracuse basketball team became another statistic with their 30 point loss in tonight’s massacre. It wasn’t necessarily that the Orange played poorly (shot 43% from the field), but the Huskies just made every inch of the court tough to play on.

The Huskies finished up with a 62% clip from the field, but were shooting a ridiculous 70% for most of the contest. They crushed SU in assists (30-8) and free throws (16-4).

The positives to think about:

  • Several players capped off amazing careers including: Alexis Peterson, Brittney Sykes, Bria and Briana Day. Sykes overcame two ACL injuries to come back and do great things in Orange
  • This was four straight years of SU at least making it to second round

Perhaps SU could’ve made it further if they didn’t get boned on the seeding job. Although we’ve seen that happen in both the Men’s and Women’s side of things.

Was UConn probably going to win the tournament anyway? Yes, but SU still deserved the respect of not only what they did this season, but in last year’s tournament.

They got all the way to the National Championship and for the bracketologists/selection committee to knowingly make Cuse play UConn in round two was just awful, distasteful and just a low-blow for no apparent reason.

This loss officially makes head coach Quentin Hillsman 0-11 all-time vs UConn. SU as a team

More from Inside the Loud House

hasn’t beaten UConn this century.

The lone bright spot in this game was when SU led.

Aw, good times, it lasted all of 15 seconds in the opening stanza when the Orange led three to two.

This team is going to have quite the facelift by the next time you see them suit up. Coach Q will certainly be tested to see if his recruiting and development can keep the standard that he’s set for the program.

While the ending to the season wasn’t what the Orange wanted there were some great things for the future to build on. The Women shattered the Carrier Dome attendance for a Women’s game earlier this season.

"“Peterson finishes her career ranked second in team history in scoring 1,978, behind Kayla Alexander, who scored 2,024 points between 2010-2013. Sykes ranks third on that list with 1,846. The duo has averaged a combined 42 points and 10.5 assists this season for the Orange.” Per ESPN.comFor those counting at home, this is the 24th straight season UConn has reached the regional semifinals. UConn is 25-2 overall in the second round. Throw in the Huskies also have been to 11 consecutive regional finals and nine straight Final Fours."

Lastly 109 straight wins and to reiterate 24 straight Sweet Sixteens. Absolutely ridiculous, I’m not sure UConn will ever lose again with this college basketball machine they’ve perfected.
