Many thought that Jim Boeheim’s son would be destined to wear Orange. That was dispelled last night when his son revealed he was headed to Cornell.

Many Syracuse fans were hoping to see another father-son duo in Division 1. Unfortunately, we aren’t going to see another duo like Brad and John Calipari or Tyler and Bill Self.

Jim Boeheim’s son, Jimmy, will play for Cornell University next year. The 6-foot-7 Jamesville-Dewitt product averaged 23.3 points last season. This year, Jimmy Boeheim played for The New Hampton School, the same school that Syracuse sophomore Tyler Lydon attended.

Boeheim expressed his excitement about the news on Twitter earlier on Tuesday.

When asked about the idea of playing under his father last April, Jimmy Boeheim had a clever response.

"“Would be a cool experience…but I am looking to play….We’ll see where I can do that,” in an interview with Donna Ditota of Syracuse.com."

Although many student-athletes would rather sit on the bench of a top team than play for a bottom-tier team, Jimmy would rather play.

In response to the news, Jim Boeheim wrote that he was “Very happy!” in a text message to ESPN.

Boeheim’s other children are twins named Buddy and Jamie. The two attend Jamesville-Dewitt as well, and Buddy is a 6-foot-5 guard who has the talent to also play Division 1 basketball.
