As we hoped, a running back finally broke out and performed well. Our starting running back, Dontae Strickland made his case to retain his starting gig. As our starting running back he had a mediocre performance the first two games: 17 carries in 2 games for only 48 yards. That’s good for 2.8 yards per carry. He changed all that versus USF.

In the game this weekend, he carried the ball 30 times for 107 yards. As critics we could say he almost doubled his carries so therefore he doubled his yardage. If we did that though we’d ignore the fact he got over a 100 yards. We had yet to do that entering this game with one running back.

In addition, Strickland’s yards per carry went up to 4.2 yards. He still needs to make the most of his carries so we have to run the ball less so we can throw more often, but we’ll take what we can get. As a reward for his first 100-yard performance this season he jumps four spots to 4th in our rankings.
