Zack Mahoney has played well so far this season going 7 for 7 for 97 yards through two games. Now some might be thinking its harsh he dropped from 5th to 9th for missing one pass this weekend. The reason for this is because we didn’t expect him to have passed for this much already.

Since Dungey is starting we didn’t expect Mahoney to pass for almost 100 yards through 2 games as a backup. Heck, the fact he has a 100% completion percentage through two games has to be recognized. Thus we moved him up the rankings as a result. The fact he had only one pass and missed it also has to effect these rankings, hence the drop.

Now just because Mahoney fell to 9th does not mean he’s any less of a player. Mahoney is a very capable backup and most Syracuse football fans feel safe with him as Dungey’s backup. However, if he’s called upon again, we hope he can make the most of it so we can talk about him again. Mahoney has a lot of heart and talent, but as backup his potential to climb these rankings is limited.
