Boeheim’s Army is back this summer, primed for another deep run in The Basketball Tournament. In this Eight-Part Series we will look at each player set to play for the Army, as well as what they’ve done since they left Syracuse Basketball

Brandon Triche

PG/SG- 2009-2013

Brandon Triche may not look like a star to most, but to Syracuse Basketball fans he always will be. During his Orange career he was about consistent as it gets. He averaged about 10 points for his career, along with three assists, one steal, and three rebounds per game.

He was a player who could get to the basket with ease and finish. On the break, he could hit the step back if stopped by the defense. There was really nothing he couldn’t do.

Though not a natural fit at point guard, he often played the position while at Syracuse. A more natural two-guard, he would find ways to still score, even when constantly distributing the ball. If it was close at the end of the game, Triche was the one SU would count on to hit clutch free throws because he rarely missed.

During his Syracuse basketball career he would start in every game he played in. He would lead the Orange to two Sweet 16 appearances, a Third Round appearance, and the Final Four in his last season, according to ESPN.com. Stars lead there teams to greatness, and Triche did just that for Syracuse Basketball.

After the 2013 season, he went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft. He would play for the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets franchise in the NBA Summer League, but would fail to latch onto a NBA team afterwards. He instead would opt to play internationally as a result.

More from All-Time Lists

Triche would sign with Dolomiti Energia Trento of the Legadue Gold league in Italy for the 2013-2014 season, according to Basketball.RealGM.com. He would play very well that season, starting all 41 games he played in. He averaged about 18 points, and dished three assists a game. The next season in 2014, he would sign with with multiple teams and start 44 of 68 games he played in.

In 2015, he would sign with Virtus Roma and start in 22 of 34 games. He would only average about 10 points a game and 3 assists.

However, a knee injury ended his season and Virtus Roma sued him for seeking care on it instead of playing. He would play four games on a torn ACL after team doctor’s and specialists said he could “play with caution” according to Syracuse.com. Here’s what Triche had to say about the incident via Syracuse.com:

"“They made me play four games on a torn ACL, swollen knee because they proved/tricked me into believing it was possible to play and that I just essentially twisted my knee. I knew they were wrong but the doctor told my coach I was able to play just three days after my x-ray. They made it seem like if I didn’t play it was because I didn’t want to versus me actually being injured.”"

After the leagues all-star break, he returned to Syracuse to get treatment. which was outside the team’s rules. The team therefore terminated his contract and thus the legal battle began. Late last year, Triche won that legal battle with the team though and was reimbursed $68,788 in salary, according to Syracuse.com.

Last summer, he chose to play for Boeheim’s Army on the knee that had fully recovered. He currently plays for Bnei Herzelia in Israel and is averaging 11 points, and 3 assists per game.

He returns this year to Boeheim’s Army with the desire to go deeper and win the purse. With his leadership guiding the Army, he can star once again in front of the Orange faithful.
