There have been a lot of reports over the last several days regarding Syracuse football star Eric Dungey. But what’s really going on here?

So the elephant in the room is Syracuse football’s brightest star, Eric Dungey, has a concussion problem. While this may not have been proven scientifically, once you get one concussion, you become more prone to future concussions.

But the problem is Syracuse University refuses to acknowledge that Dungey in fact suffered a concussion during that Clemson game where he was walloped by two future NFL players.

Babers said that he got hit in the shoulder area, maybe he did, maybe he didn’t. But there are serious problems with this University. They claim to have this concussion policy very much akin to a three strike policy.

But apparently the fine print says it depends on the player’s star power. So the rules are often

bent if the player is important to a program. You know, unlike AJ Long, a former Orange quarterback who was deemed ineligible due to his concussion history.

So lets go through the current events to try and diagnose this situation. So after the Clemson game, the University and it’s staff played a cat and mouse game on whether Dungey will play against NC State. 10 minutes before kickoff they reveal he won’t play.

Immediately following the game head coach Dino Babers is asked about his status for the Florida State game and he said, “based off of traditions, I’d imagine he’d be doubtful for next week.”

Curious comments from the head coach and when he was asked the follow up he said, “normally we’re going to be very cautious.” Cautious with what? What kind of injury are we dealing with here?

Now these comments he made are from his Monday press conference. So nearly 10 days after the Clemson game, reporters ask Babers what kind of injury is Dungey dealing with here.

"“They’re going through tests and now they’re going through secondary tests. They’re getting a second opinion on stuff, so we’ve got to wait for the second opinion. We got to wait to see what that doctor says. So really I’m not keeping information from you guys, we’re looking for new information and I haven’t received that information.”"

There’s no way you’re telling me that you haven’t diagnosed what kind of injury this is. When a player tears an ACL in a game you can usually find out before that press conference what kind of injury you’re dealing with. So save the BS for somebody else, all we want in the media is honesty even if we don’t always get it.

I would much rather prefer coach Babers tell us he knows what this injury is and he’s not ready to divulge that information at this time. But Babers refuses to use the scary “c” word.

So if this isn’t the “c” word, then why has the career-ending injury discussion risen up? Don’t get me wrong I understand a shoulder injury or any injury could put a player on the shelf for his career, but we know that isn’t the case.

When asked about this potentially being career ending, Babers answered appropriately saying that’s not our place to talk about right now and lets let the doctors answer that question for us.

The entire Orange community is worried for the future well being of Dungey. Even beyond the football field, this young man has a very bright future ahead of him.

While a new report has surfaced flipping the narrative on this injury’s long term impact.

Feel free to check out Nate Mink’s piece yourself above, but essentially what his “source” says is that they believe it isn’t career-ending. I’ll have to see it to believe it, but right now I don’t feel too good about Dungey’s long-term propositions in an Orange uniform. You can absolutely forget about Dungey returning this season though, that I feel certain of.

But in conclusion, we all know that Dungey suffered a concussion. Just come out and say it and by avoiding the word and dancing around the bush, you’re insulting the intelligence of the media and SU fans everywhere.
