After a terrific spring and summer on the AAU circuit, Syracuse basketball four-star recruit Tyler Betsey is seeing his list of scholarship offers expand, and he’s poised to enter the 2024 national rankings in a big-time way, sooner rather than later.

Already, recruiting service On3 rates the 6-foot-8 Betsey as four stars, No. 75 overall, No. 19 at small forward and No. 1 in Connecticut.

Experts have said more than once lately that the talented shooting guard/small forward is just scratching the surface in terms of his national offer sheet and 2024 ratings.

While Betsey’s recruiting process likely has a way to go, he has already collected more than 20 offers from a range of high-major programs. The ‘Cuse coaching staff offered him toward the beginning of July.

Competition continues to intensify for Syracuse basketball four-star target Tyler Betsey.

In grassroots basketball, Betsey suits up for the New York City-based NY Renaissance in Nike’s EYBL league. Last month, at the EYBL’s annual Peach Jam tournament in North Augusta, S.C., analysts and scouts alike praised Betsey for his play.

Described as a versatile two-way player who shoots the ball with precision and gets after it on the defensive end, Betsey holds offers from teams such as UConn, Xavier, Notre Dame, Providence, Rutgers, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Penn State, TCU, Seton Hall, Creighton, St. John’s, Rhode Island, Iona, St. Bonaventure, Brown, George Washington, Manhattan, Fairfield, Central Connecticut State and Sacred Heart.

In a recent interview with scouting service Pro Insight, Betsey said he is garnering interest from Oregon, Arizona, Wake Forest and Maryland, among others.

When asked by Pro Insight which college squads he’s hearing from the most, Betsey mentions suitors including Syracuse basketball, Rutgers, West Virginia and Penn State.

He said to Pro Insight that he visited Rhode Island this summer and is eyeing visits to Rutgers and UConn.

As we noted in a column in mid-July, Betsey did say in an interview with SyracuseOnSI publisher Mike McAllister that he would like to visit the Orange at some point in the future.

A season ago, Betsey was a star for Windsor High School in Windsor, Conn. During the upcoming 2022-23 campaign, he will compete as a junior for the St. Thomas More School in Oakdale, Conn.

Pro Insight director of scouting Andrew Slater recently said of Betsey in a tweet, “Arguably, the most underrated in ‘24 (currently).”
