The primary recruiting services now have all disclosed their final 2022 national rankings, and we’re taking a look at where Syracuse basketball signee Judah Mintz, a top-flight guard, is placed.

Just a quick backgrounder here. For these sorts of articles, I rely most heavily on the industry-generated 247Sports Composite and the On3 Consensus.

The four individual recruiting Web sites that I use are 247Sports, Rivals.com, ESPN and On3. The most recent final 2022 ratings came in a few days ago from 247Sports, where it ranked the top-150 prospects across the country.

All in all, among these recruiting services, the 6-foot-3 Mintz is a consensus four-star, top-75 player in his cycle. The senior standout at the Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., when I wrote this column, was situated inside the top-45 nationally according to both composite rankings.

Syracuse basketball commit Judah Mintz is the Orange’s highest-rated 2022 signee.

In mid-April, 247Sports had Judah Mintz at No. 73 overall, No. 12 at combo guard and No. 2 in Virginia.

When this recruiting service unveiled its final 2022 player ratings not too long ago, 247Sports moved Mintz up to No. 54 nationally, No. 10 at combo guard and No. 2 in Virginia.

Mintz was in all likelihood the second-best player for the powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in the 2021-22 campaign, when this squad finished in the top-10 nationwide.

The Oak Hill Academy suits up in perhaps the toughest high-school league in the United States, the prestigious National Interscholastic Basketball Conference. And during 2021-22, Mintz was among the leading scorers in the NIBC.

So while I’m not a recruiting analyst or scout, respectfully, I think that his No. 54 national ranking from 247Sports is too low.

For some context, at the time of this writing, the 247Sports Composite rated Mintz as No. 45 overall, No. 7 at combo guard and No. 2 in Virginia.

Additionally, the On3 Consensus had him at No. 43 nationwide, No. 8 at combo guard and No. 2 in Virginia.

ESPN, meanwhile, is the most bullish on Mintz, rating him at No. 33 around the country and No. 7 at shooting guard. Rivals.com puts him at No. 56 nationally and No. 10 at shooting guard.

Finally, there’s On3. Respectfully, again, I don’t understand this recruiting service’s national ranking for Mintz at all. On3 has him at No. 75 nationwide and No. 4 in Virginia.

Sure, maybe I have Orange-colored glasses on, but I find it really hard to believe that there are 74 better prospects in the 2022 class than Judah Mintz.

Regardless, Syracuse basketball has an elite player here, and ‘Cuse fans are pumped about his arrival on the Hill in the near future, along with the other five members of the team’s 2022 cycle.
