Syracuse basketball, which has lost three in a row, will wrap up its 2021-22 regular season with a rematch against fellow Atlantic Coast Conference foe Miami on Saturday afternoon in Central New York.

It’s Senior Day for the Orange, as the team will honor senior shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, graduate student forward Jimmy Boeheim, graduate student center Bourama Sidibe, senior forward Cole Swider and others on the roster.

That being said, it doesn’t appear 100 percent certain that all four of these guys will be departing the ‘Cuse after the 2021-22 stanza is over, despite several recent rounds of comments from Syracuse basketball head coach Jim Boeheim.

Swider, for one, has said that he’s keeping various options open, including a possible return to the Orange for another term. Regardless, we have a lot of admiration, appreciation and respect for the squad’s seniors and grad students, and I’m sure Saturday will prove an emotional day for the Boeheim family, in particular.

On the court, the ‘Cuse (15-15, 9-10) is hoping to avoid its first losing season under Jim Boeheim in his 46 years leading this program. After the Orange’s collision with the Hurricanes (21-9, 13-6), Syracuse basketball will head to Brooklyn, N.Y., next week for the 2022 ACC Tournament.

Syracuse vs. Miami on Saturday

For the upcoming ACC Tournament, the ‘Cuse is locked into the match-up pitting the No. 8 seed against the No. 9 seed, with that contest coming on Wednesday, March 9, versus Florida State.

The Hurricanes, on the other hand, are trying to hold steady in the top four of the league standings. Miami, in its last time out, defeated Boston College on the road this past Wednesday evening.

Earlier in the 2021-22 campaign, the Orange blew a massive lead on the road down in South Florida and ended up losing to the Hurricanes by one point.

That outcome was just one heart-breaking example of the ‘Cuse being right there with the majority of its opponents this season, but Syracuse basketball sometimes has difficulty closing games out.

Miami has proven a really pleasant surprise in the ACC in 2021-22. Both the Hurricanes and the Orange have highly efficient offenses, and I expect a lot of offensive firepower in this conference clash.

My head tells me that Miami will likely prevail here, however, with the Boeheim brothers presumably suiting up in the Carrier Dome for potentially the last occasion, I’m going to go with my heart in predicting that the ‘Cuse will upset the Hurricanes this Saturday in the regular-season finale.
