Syracuse basketball got in early on with 2022 four-star center Donovan Clingan, but the talented big man is hearing from a ton of schools.

Syracuse basketball offered a scholarship to fast-rising 2022 four-star center Donovan Clingan more than a year ago, which is encouraging.

However, as the 7-foot-1 prospect out of Connecticut has witnessed his stock soar via the recruiting services, the floodgates have opened in terms of additional scholarship offers and overall interest from an abundance of high-major programs.

Per his Twitter page, one of the more recent offers to Clingan came from fellow Atlantic Coast Conference member Wake Forest.

Additionally, according to an article by Jake Weingarten, the founder of Stockrisers.com, Clingan is one of 50 players in the 2022 recruiting cycle who have gotten selected for an evaluation combine on Oct. 24-25 hosted by the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Weingarten writes in his piece that Clingan says the teams presently recruiting him are “UConn, UMass, Michigan State, Georgetown, Providence, Iowa, Syracuse, Rutgers, Notre Dame, Boston College, Yale, Maryland, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Iona, Louisville, UCF, Northwestern, Columbia … Georgia, Ohio State, Holy Cross, Clemson, and Wake Forest.”

That’s some intense competition for Syracuse basketball to land Clingan, who is a junior at Bristol Central High School in Bristol, Conn., and runs on the AAU circuit with the Boston-based Team Spartans.

Syracuse basketball is in for fierce recruiting bout to secure 2022 four-star center Donovan Clingan.

In mid-July, we penned a story about Clingan in which we noted that, last season, Clingan posted some really stellar averages of 24.8 points, 17.2 rebounds and 6.4 blocks per contest. Not too shabby for his sophomore stanza.

Recently, per Weingarten, Clingan has spoken with the head coaches at Connecticut, the ACC’s Notre Dame, Rutgers and former Big East Conference rival Georgetown.

Clingan says that he has a “great” relationship with Connecticut head coach Dan Hurley. “He loves my game and tells me choosing UConn would be the best decision of my life,” Clingan says of Hurley in the Weingarten report.

Currently, the main recruiting Web sites deem him a top-50 player nationally in his class, a top-10 center and the No. 1 prospect in the state of Connecticut.

Overall in the 2022 cycle, he is No. 39 from 247Sports, No. 41 from the 247Sports Composite, No. 45 at Rivals.com and No. 48 with ESPN.com.
