Syracuse football scored a 2021 three-star wide receiver on Friday when Umari Hatcher selected the Orange.

In the days leading up to his commitment announcement, nearly a half-dozen analysts on the 247Sports Web site predicted that 2021 three-star wide receiver Umari Hatcher would ultimately choose Syracuse football, and these experts got this one right.

Hatcher, who at 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds has terrific size at the wide-receiver position, is a rising senior at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, Va. Prior to his opting to don a ‘Cuse uniform in about a year’s time, his final six featured Syracuse football, along with Indiana, Michigan State, Maryland, East Carolina and Liberty.

Umari Hatcher, a 2021 three-star wide receiver who plays in Virginia, has decided to make Syracuse football his collegiate destination.

Brian Dohn, a national analyst with 247Sports, published a piece before Hatcher’s reveal in which Freedom High School head coach Darryl Overton said of Hatcher, “He is the type of receiver who can play vertically, win the 50-50 ball. He’s tall, he can run good routes and what makes him exceptional is that at his size, he’s good with the ball in his hands.”

Overton continued, “Most receivers that are good with the ball in their hands are small guys. But he’s good with his hands, so I think he has all three attributes that make a receiver really good.”

The pledge by Hatcher to the Orange gives Syracuse football a total of 19 commitments in its 2021 recruiting cycle, including fellow three-star wide receiver Kendall Long.

Nationally across the 2021 class, the 247Sports Composite currently slots Hatcher at No. 997 overall, as well as No. 146 at wide receiver and No. 27 in the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is No. 104 at wide receiver and No. 19 in Virginia via 247Sports, and Rivals.com places Hatcher as the No. 25 prospect in Virginia.

Although he had recently trimmed his list of contenders to six, Hatcher held roughly a dozen scholarship offers from a range of programs, primarily led by teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Big Ten Conference.
