Syracuse Basketball offers 2020 4-star guard Kadary Richmond

The Syracuse basketball squad, after recently missing out on Andre Jackson, has honed in on another talented guy in the 2020 class, Kadary Richmond.

Last week, the Syracuse basketball team found out that 2020 four-star wing Andre Jackson had selected former Big East Conference rival Connecticut over the Orange, as well as Iowa, Maryland and UCLA.

While that decision certainly did sting a bit, Syracuse has quickly moved on, offering a scholarship to another 2020 prospect, Kadary Richmond, per a report by Michael McAllister of CuseNation.com, citing multiple sources.

The 6-foot-5 Richmond, whose hometown is in Brooklyn, N.Y., attends the Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., a crew that has sent numerous players to the Orange in recent years, including former ‘Cuse star C.J. Fair and current sophomore shooting guard Buddy Boeheim, who spent his senior stanza there.

Richmond, rated as four stars by the majority of recruiting services, is slotted No. 100 nationally in his class by the 247Sports Composite, as well as 95th via both ESPN.com and Rivals.com. However, 247Sports places Richmond a tad lower in the class of 2020, at No. 159. Regardless, the combo guard absolutely can ball, and his versatility in suiting up at point guard, shooting guard and small forward is enticing.

In reviewing the primary recruiting Web sites, it appears that Richmond holds more than two-dozen scholarship offers from a wide range of programs. In August, he told Prep Circuit senior basketball editor Pat Lawless that he had trimmed his list to four units – Oregon, Seton Hall, St. John’s and UConn. With Jackson heading to the Huskies, it’s conceivable that development could lead Richmond to shy away from Connecticut, but I’m only speculating here.

For what it’s worth, following news of Richmond receiving an offer from Syracuse, several recruiting analysts on the 247Sports Web site are now projecting the Orange as the front-runner to land Richmond. Of course, as we all know, this type of forecasting never guarantees anything, as analysts deemed the ‘Cuse as the favorite to secure Jackson for many months.

Still, it’s encouraging to see the Syracuse coaching staff center in on Richmond, and don’t forget that 2020 five-star power forward Isaiah Jackson also has the Orange in his final three, along with Alabama and Kentucky.
