Syracuse Football: Predicting the Orange’s 2018 record
By Adam Patrick
Final 2018 Record: 6-6
Big Win: Week 1 at Western Michigan
There’s one thing that I’m comfortable in prognosticating about the 2018 Syracuse football squad; it will perform better than last year’s outfit, which finished with an unfortunate record of 4-8.
Now, I’m not saying that the Orange are going to compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff in 2018, but a seasoned quarterback in Eric Dungey, coupled with hopefully an improved defense, should provide a couple of more conquests this coming stanza.
On the flip side is a fairly rough schedule that does the ‘Cuse no favors. Western Michigan on the road in the team’s season opener isn’t a walk in the park. There’s also ACC heavyweights such as Clemson and Florida State, as well as Notre Dame, on the slate for Syracuse this year. I imagine that the Orange will see itself as the underdog in a bulk of its games.
I’m not pessimistic about Syracuse sports. In fact, I’m hugely passionate. However, if I’m assessing the schedule honestly, and realistically, I can’t envision a scenario where the Orange win more than half of its duels.
Therefore, I’m making a prediction that the ‘Cuse will wrap up its 2018 campaign at a 6-6 mark and, most importantly, secure a post-season berth to either the Military Bowl or the Quick Lane Bowl.
As far as a big upset victory, I don’t expect one in the rugged ACC, but securing a triumph at Western Michigan in Week 1 is something that I certainly project. I’m so excited for college football to begin, and let’s go Orange!
