Dino Babers

Perhaps this one should be labeled the entire Syracuse Football team. Dino certainly made waves with the Syracuse Football program in 2017, defeating the now #1 Clemson Tigers. Not only that, but he did so right in the time frame he expected the program to turn the corner. There’s just one problem – it was the last win of the season for the football team. Syracuse then went on to lose to Miami, Florida State, Wake Forest, Louisville, and Boston College to end the season. While the win over Clemson certainly made huge waves in the college football world, the rest of the season did not. Syracuse went just 2-7 in their final 9 games, a feat that will bring as much scrutiny as the Clemson win brought praise.

What influences the headlines more: beating the team who is currently top ranked in the country, or losing out the rest of the season following that win? Following the conclusion of the season, Babers had this to say:

"“When you look at what we’re doing and you look about what’s going to happen next year, I think you’re going to see drastic improvement,” Babers said. “You’re going to see the growth and maturity of the young men. You thought they were bigger this year, you wait until you see them next year. You think that their freshman class was good last year, you wait until you see them this year. And as the depth and everything grows and their bodies change, the team will change and the performances will change.”"
