Make Your Free Throws!

I’m really getting sick of having to keep mentioning this, but Syracuse keeps missing the freebies. Against Miami, SU was 8-14 for 57%. A huge chunk of that was once again Michael Gbinije, who has completely regressed back to last year’s free throw shooting.

I’m sorry, but how can a guy who can drain 3’s from beyond the NBA 3-point line hit jus 63% of his free throws. He’s unguarded. He can take as long as he likes, yet he keeps missing them.

It’s just flat out unacceptable at this level of the game for a guy who’s as good a shooter as he is to miss as frequently as he does from the charity stripe.

Lest you think I’m just picking on him, I’d like to point out that Trevor Cooney is only hitting 76% of his, Richardson is at 69%, and Roberson is only 54%. Cooney was an 84% free throw shooter as a sophomore and has regressed the past two seasons.

I just can’t stress this enough. Make your damn free throws! It’s not that hard. A child can do it. NCAA basketball players should have no problems with it.
