Donovan McNabb is as great as they come. No matter what anyone has ever said about him, he carries himself with pride and class, being a role model’s role model. He has done too many things for Syracuse University to count, both on and off the field.

He gave the Orange a 35-14 record when he was behind center, and led the ‘Cuse to the Orange Bowl in his senior season. He was named the Big East Offensive Player of the Decade for the 90’s, in a conference that included the prime of the conference’s history.

All of this leads to it being long overdue for McNabb to have his jersey retired, something that has been decided by the Syracuse Board of Trustees, according to McNabb’s Twitter page. While the school has not confirmed his tweet, it appears that the Orange’s home game against Wake Forest on November 2nd will be the day his jersey will hang in the rafters forever in the Carrier Dome.

And to me, there shouldn’t even be a debate about it.

Yes Donovan went high in the draft to Philadelphia. Yes McNabb had a hall-of-fame-type of career with the Eagles in the NFL. Yes he had one of the single best careers in the history of Syracuse Football, and set all kinds of records when he was in Central New York including a school record of total offense in a season and the longest pass in team history.

But the fact that his heart never left Syracuse is the best aspect of this story. McNabb is one of the youngest members of the Syracuse Board of Trustees since his addition in 2002. He is seen front and center representing the University in any situation, be it a Syracuse Football Pinstripe Bowl win, or a scandal involving assistant basketball coaches. Donovan is not only a Syracuse Football fan, but a Syracuse fan as a whole. Want proof? The women’s basketball lounge is named after him and his wife Raquel.

Donovan has been a Class A gentleman, even in a town like Philadelphia where he will go down as one of the most underappreciated players in the history of the National Football League. He has always been respectful, and has done Syracuse University more than proud. Inside The Loud House sends their sincerest congratulations to Donovan, and hope that the Carrier Dome is packed when this Orange legend has his jersey hung in the rafters.

JoJo Marasco and Alyssa Murray have both been named one of the five finalists for the Tewaaraton award for the mens and womens category. The Tewaaraton award is college lacrosse’s highest honors, and is given annually to the best player in the sport. The finalists are headed to the presentation of the award at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian on May 30th.

Here are the bios for both JoJo and Alyssa from the Tewaaraton website:

JoJo Marasco, the 2013 Big East Midfielder of the Year and a unanimous first-team All-Big East selection, paced Syracuse in points (53) and assists (35) during the regular season, the latter breaking Paul Gait’s program record. A senior from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., Marasco led the Orange to the top seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Syracuse junior Alyssa Murray ranks among the nation’s Top 10 in goals (56), points (90) and points per game (4.74). Murray, an attacker from West Babylon, N.Y., earned Big East Attack Player of the Year honors, was a unanimous selection to the All-Big East First Team and was a Big East All-Tournament team selection. She currently sits in the Orange’s top five in career goals, assists and points.

I dare you to try and tell me that Syracuse doesn’t play anyone on their schedule.

Syracuse got one of the marquee non conference games of the 2013-2014 season today as it was announced that the Indiana Hoosiers will come to the Carrier Dome for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. This is great news for Syracuse fans, who already have one of the more exciting home basketball schedules in recent memory. Earlier this week it was announced the Syracuse and Villanova were working on a series over three seasons, including a home and home series with one neutral game at Madison Square Garden.

Here are the confirmed home games for the Orange in the next basketball season:

Duke

North Carolina

Notre Dame

Pittsburgh

NC State

Boston College

Miami

Clemson

Georgia Tech

Indiana

This home schedule so far is awesome. As much as we are all going to miss the Big East, I think this is the kind of schedule that can help us move on from the dying conference, and fast. The ACC is without a doubt one of the best basketball conferences in the country, and the Orange appear to have every marquee game in the Carrier Dome this season. Not only will this bode well for attendance, but it also is the most favorable conference schedule the Orange have had since the 2009-2010 season, a year in which the Orange captured the regular season Big East Championship and a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

It’s gonna be a fun ride my friends…

Following their impressive Big East Championship victory over the Villanova Wildcats, the Syracuse Orange lacrosse team is now seeded higher in the NCAA Tournament than they were in the Big East Tournament.

And the Orange were seeded second in their quest for a conference crown.

Syracuse is your new #1 team in the country, following their run through the Big East. The Orange beat Notre Dame again for a second time, and followed it up with a convincing victory in the championship game.

The Orange will host Bryant this Sunday at 7:30. If they come out victorious, they will play the winner of Yale and Penn State. Here is the complete bracket, courtesy of the NCAA:

Number One: Syracuse Beats Georgetown In Final Big East Meeting (3/15/2013)

I don’t think there is even a debate that this was the most memorable game of the 2013 season.

Mar 15, 2013; New York, NY, USA; Syracuse Orange forward C.J. Fair (5) dunks over Georgetown Hoyas forward Otto Porter (22) during overtime of a semifinal game of the Big East tournament at Madison Square Garden. Syracuse won 58-55 in overtime. Mandatory Credit: Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse and Georgetown went toe to toe for one final time as Big East rivals in the Big East Tournament. Georgetown beat the Orange by 11 in the Carrier Dome, then absolutely blew the doors off Syracuse in the Verizon Center in the teams’ two regular season meetings. This was a game that Orange fans wanted badly, and I would argue that it was the most important game of the season for fans at that point in the season.

Syracuse jumped out to a hot start, and claimed a nine point lead heading in to halftime. Georgetown didn’t quit however, fighting their way back in it before tying the game and sending it to overtime. Brandon Triche scored a quick go-ahead basket, and the Orange had the lead for good. There were a lot of memorable moments in this game. Baye Keita’s clutch free throw shooting. James Southerland’s three balls. Brandon Triche’s aggression driving the ball and drawing contact. But what was the best highlight of the game? When this happened.

This game will forever be etched in both Syracuse and Georgetown’s history books, because it was the final time the two teams played as regular season opponents. Fair or not (no pun intended) for a Hoya team that dominated the regular season series this year against the Orange, fans will undoubtedly remember the final meeting between the two rivals on the biggest stage over the regular season. Aside from the two teams meeting in the NCAA Tournament, the Big East Tournament is as big as it gets for this rivalry, and the Orange prevailed in a memorable game that will never be forgotten.

Until the Hoyas and Orange meet again in March, any games between the two schools will not be anywhere close to as important as this game was. A non-conference series with the Hoyas would be nice (The Orange are 14-7 against the Hoyas since 2003), but I think it goes without saying that the importance of a win in that type of situation is nowhere near as important as the final Big East meeting between the two rivals.

Number Two: Syracuse Beats Marquette, Wins East Regional (3/30/2013)

This was a game that I don’t think any fan in the city of Syracuse expected to lose. The Orange had dropped a decision to the Golden Eagles earlier in the season in Wisconsin, in a game that saw a huge free throw disparity before Marquette won the game 74-71. This time around, Marquette was coming off of an absolute demolishing of the Miami Hurricanes, and the Golden Eagles appeared to be at their peak. Syracuse was coming off of a huge win over Indiana, with the confidence of the fan base at a high for the season to get the team to the Final Four.

In this game, the Syracuse zone absolutely destroyed the Marquette offense. The Golden Eagles scored just 39 points, the lowest offensive output in the shot clock era for a regional final game. The Orange forced 14 Marquette turnovers, including ten steals. Throw in seven blocks, and the game was never really in doubt. Michael Carter-Williams led the way for the Orange in the winning effort with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and five steals. Carter-Williams was named the most outstanding player of the East Regional, and the Syracuse Orange punched their ticket to Atlanta to play in the Final Four.

This game was important for obvious reasons. While it is unfortunate that it was the last win of the season for Syracuse, it was a celebration that this team deserved. They could have very easily called it a season when they hit that rough patch, but they fought adversity to come back to beat Georgetown in their final Big East match up, and to follow that up with a run to the Final Four. The icing on top? Cutting down the Georgetown Hoya nets in the Verizon Center as the East Regional Champions. This is a game that Syracuse fans won’t forget for a long time, and something that the players can be very proud of.

Number Three: Syracuse “Steals” One From Louisville (1/19/2013)

This was a game that really made Syracuse fans believe that this team can contend for the National Championship. The Orange were ranked sixth in the nation at the time, but hadn’t played a ranked team to this point in the season aside from a San Diego State team that was completely overmatched. This was a game on the road, against the nation’s #1 ranked team who ended up winning the national championship. Louisville had made a run to the Final Four in the 2012 season, and the hype was there for the Cardinals to win the whole thing.

This was easily the most anticipated game of the week in college basketball, and it did not disappoint. Both teams made big plays throughout the contest, and the game went right down to the wire. Michael Carter-Williams made a steal and a dunk with 23 seconds remaining that put the Orange up by two. MCW then made a steal on the ensuing possession to seal the deal for Syracuse. Michael finished the game with seven assists 16 points, including 9 of the final eleven for the Orange.

MCW wasn’t the only player that played great in this one though. Brandon Triche went 9 for 13 from the field, finishing with 23 points to lead Syracuse in scoring. Triche was perfect from the field in the first half, and kept the Orange within striking distance until Carter-Williams made some clutch baskets down the stretch. This was without a doubt the signature win of the regular season for the Orange, and really showed the country that this team was legit.

Number Four: Boeheim Passes Knight As Syracuse Blows Out Rutgers (1/2/2013)

This was a game that was special for obvious reasons. The game was never really in doubt past the 10 minute mark in the first half, but it was a game that I bet Jim Boeheim was glad to get out of the way. Boeheim passed Bob Knight for second on the all-time wins list with this victory over the lowly Scarlet Knights, a milestone the Boeheim quickly dismissed after the game was over:

“I’m proud to be able to do that. I’m happy to get it done,” Boeheim said after his seventh-ranked Orange had defeated Rutgers 78-53 on Wednesday night for his 903rd victory, one more than Knight among men’s Division I coaches. “To me, this game is not about numbers, it really isn’t. It’s not about how many points you score or the assists you get. It’s about all the people, all the people you meet on the way. It’s been an unbelievable experience.”

Boeheim will unlikely catch Coach K ahead of him, so fans in the Carrier Dome that night saw Boeheim pass the last of the legendary coaches on that list. Bob Knight is considered by many to be the best coach in the history of college basketball, so for Boeheim to pass him was definitely a memorable thing for both the hall of famer and the fans in attendance to see it.
