The Syracuse football 2021 recruiting class currently has nine commitments.

The recent pledge by 2021 three-star linebacker Malik Matthew to Syracuse football gives the Orange nine players in this recruiting cycle, with six of those guys on defense.

Matthew, a rising senior at Herbert H. Lehman High School in the Bronx, N.Y., who is also slotted in the top 10 as far as Empire State prospects in the 2021 class go, revealed his commitment to the ‘Cuse on the same day that ESPN.com published its latest top-25 class ratings for the 2021 cycle.

Unsurprisingly, Syracuse didn’t make the cut for the ESPN.com list. Five other Atlantic Coast Conference members are featured here, and they are Clemson, North Carolina, Miami, Virginia, and Florida State.

Of course, the 2021 cycle has a long way before it’s all wrapped up, so these sorts of rankings will undoubtedly change. But after Matthew elected to suit up for the Orange, it seemed relevant to take a look at where the ‘Cuse stands in 2021 class-ratings from the primary recruiting services.

For now, Syracuse football has a solid, but certainly not spectacular, 2021 class.

As we already mentioned, Syracuse isn’t in the ESPN.com top 25. Over on the 247Sports Web site, the Orange is placed at No. 49 across the country, with nine three-star prospects.

Additionally, the rankings from 247Sports have six ‘Cuse 2021 commits who are presently in the top 100 nationwide at their respective positions.

Rivals.com, meanwhile, puts the Syracuse class of 2021 at No. 55 overall at this juncture, and this Web site says that six of the Orange’s prospects are noted three stars.

Among those 2021 guys who have committed to the ‘Cuse over the past few weeks are defensive lineman Hayden Nelson, tight end Landon Morris, defensive end/linebacker Derek McDonald, and wide receiver Kendall Long.

In all fairness, Syracuse absolutely has an opportunity to enhance its class ratings for 2021, as the Orange is still targeting numerous top-flight targets, including five-star, four-star, and three-star players.

Secure a handful of these stellar prospects, and the ‘Cuse 2021 recruiting class will continue on an upward trajectory.
