Syracuse football will be well represented at this year’s NFL Combine. Here’s our full preview of former Orange wide receiver Trishton Jackson.

Trishton Jackson will be one of four former Syracuse football players at this year’s NFL Combine. This is a massive opportunity to increase his NFL Draft stock ahead of draft day.

Collegiate production:

Jackson spent the first two years of his college career with the Michigan State Spartans. TJ played in 10 games combined during that span catching 17 passes for 232 yards and one touchdown.

After that brief tenure, Trishton decided to join the Syracuse football program via transfer.

Technically Jackson spent two years on the hill with the Orange. 2018 he was forced to sit out due to the transfer rules, but due to a loophole was able to play in the Camping World Bowl which was the 13th game of the season.

In that one game, he caught three receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown.

In 2019 Trishton finally got his opportunity to show what he was truly made of. While the Syracuse football team as a whole didn’t enjoy the success they were hoping for, Jackson looked great hauling in 66 catches for 1,023 yards and an outstanding 11 touchdowns.

Jackson decided to forgo his final season in Orange in lieu of the 2020 NFL Draft.

NFL Draft stock:

Trishton surprised the Syracuse football fan base, coaching staff, and reportedly his teammates when he announced shortly after Christmas that he was pursuing an NFL future.

Jackson’s current NFL Draft stock at this point is nonexistent.

We spoke with several area scouts, performed over 50 mock draft simulations via The Draft Network, and Trishton hasn’t appeared in any conversations.

337 players were invited to this year’s NFL Combine. It’s an exclusive club that only a select amount of players get invited to. The fact that Jackson received an invite is major news. This will provide him a golden opportunity to improve his draft stock.

NFL Combine schedule:

On Thursday, February 27 the tight ends, quarterbacks, and wide receivers will run through the gauntlet of drills.

There are some changes to this year’s NFL Combine. First off this year’s festivities will be in primetime for the first time in history. Additionally, 16 new drills have been added.

Per NFL.com here are the details on a new drill added for wide receivers and a drill that was eliminated:

"“ReceiversNEW: End zone fade routeEnd zone fade: Quarterbacks will throw passes to receivers running 10-yard fade routes to the right side of the end zone, creating a need for the use of pylons in these drills. The route addition is intended to mimic a popular pass attempt seen inside the red zone, typically attempted from a snap taken close to the goal line with the target being the back corner pylon. For receivers, this will display how well they can locate and track the ball before making the catch and keeping both feet in bounds in a tight area.ELIMINATED: Toe tap drill”"

55 wide receivers were invited to this year’s NFL Combine which is the most of any position group in Indianapolis.

On top of the physical drills that Trishton will run through something that is equally as important will be the informal and formal interviews with NFL teams and the array of medical testing. Right now TJ isn’t on NFL teams radars but that can all change with a good week at the NFL Combine.
