Syracuse Football: ACC Network reveals 3 SU players to watch in 2019
The ACC Digital Network revealed three Syracuse football players we should have our eyes on in 2019. Here’s why we couldn’t agree more.
With so many Syracuse football players gone through graduation, the NFL Draft, or both there are a lot of spots to fill.
While on one hand that can be intimidating, on the other hand, that provides a lot of opportunity for some of the lesser named players to earn spots on the Orange for 2019 and the future.
SU has a lot to prove in 2019 after the success they had in 2018. Despite some players leaving there is still a ton of unearthed talent on this Orange roster.
The ACC Digital Network revealed three key Syracuse football players to watch out for in 2019 on their YouTube channel:
Trill Williams, DB
- On the plays, they show from last season you see crazy awareness from Trill Williams. The first of his two interceptions in that Boston College game is a ridiculous pick. He’s eyeing the receiver all the way down the field and in the last possible moment turns his head back towards quarterback and snags the one-handed interception.
- While on the second play, Trill isn’t distracted by the wide receiver who might catch the intended pass, he’s thinking interception the whole way and grabs it. Also shows nice footwork to get both feet in. That may not be necessary at the collegiate level (only need one foot in) it does prove that would’ve been good in the NFL.
Taj Harris, WR
- At Syracuse, everyone always talks about the wide receivers and for good reason. They have been the primary beneficiary of the Dino Babers “Orange is the New Fast” offense over the last three years. But for whatever reason Taj Harris continues to slip under the radar. Although I’d guess he won’t be under the radar once you see what he accomplishes in 2019.
Tommy DeVito, QB
- Tommy has a live arm, there’s no other way to put it. Certainly, that was on full display at the end of the North Carolina game when he was asked to come in and save the day. The one thing he really lacks is experience and that’ll finally come in droves in 2019.
- Here are two nuggets to consider that may surprise you about Tommy:
- He is entering his third year under Dino Babers reign. So he’s got more experience in the offense then you probably thought.
- DeVito has NEVER started a game for the Orange. Despite playing in a few games in 2018, he has never started.
So what does that mean?
Well, it means that opponents haven’t had to gameplan for him, he has been winging it on the fly. On the other side of the coin, he’s never been a starter. So he has never received the full reps in practice and had a gameplan orchestrated for him by the coaching staff. He’s already impressed without that stuff, so 2019 should be a lot of fun watching his development.
