Syracuse Lacrosse showed no ill effects of a dramatic come-from-behind win against Virginia last week against St. John’s. The Orange, now 4-1 on the year, have now picked up their first road win of the season. Inside the Loud House recaps the game.

Syracuse Lacrosse looked like they had every intention of blowing away the St. John’s Red storm early. The Orange started the game with five straight goals most of which were assisted or scored by star attacker Nick Mariano according to RedStormSports.com.

The first goal of the game to lead off the scoring was attacker Brad Voigt.  He does not get a lot of playing time, but he got the Orange up early in this one. Mariano assisted on the goal. From here on out the the Orange would score fast and quick.

Mariano scored himself less than 40 seconds later to put Syracuse Lacrosse up 2-0, with 8:40 left to go in the first quarter. It was his 9th goal of the season. Faceoff star Ben Williams kept up the quick play with a quick score 16 seconds later to make it a 3-0 lead with 8:24 left in the first. That goal was assisted by Jordan Evans.

Less than 8 seconds later the Orange would score yet again. Jordan Evans would put the Orange up 4-0. The goal was assisted by Ben Williams. The Orange wouldn’t score their fifth goal until 3:25 left in the period, but it just goes to show how dynamic Syracuse Lacrosse’s offense can be when its clicking on all cylinders. The Orange’s fifth goal was scored by Nick Mariano and assisted by Jordan Evans.

The Red Storm would get a goal from Joe Madsen with 1:35 left in the first, but with a 5-1 lead, the Orange felt they could coast. That worked fine up until halftime when Syracuse led 6-4.

St. John’s would score early in the third quarter with another goal from Madsen to cut the deficit to one at 6-5. Both teams would have trouble figuring out the other for the rest of the quarter. The Orange would finally awaken with a goal from Brendan Bomberry with 7 seconds left to go in the third to make the score 7-5.

Just over a minute into the fourth quarter though St. John’s would respond. A goal by attacker Colin Duffy would make the score 7-6. Brad Voigt would come back to score for Syracuse Lacrosse to put the Orange back up two at 8-6 with 6:46 left to go in the game. About a minute late, Salcido would follow suit to put the Orange up three, 9-6, with 5:25 to go.

The Red Storm though would not give up as Syracuse gave them multiple chances to score. St. John’s scored twice with under four to go, making it a very tight call with under a minute to go.

The score 9-8, the Red Storm lost the faceoff with 54 seconds to go. However, they forced a turnover with 20 seconds to go. The turnover led to a shot by St. John’s midfielder Scott Scannell but the shot luckily went wide. That missed shot preserved the Orange’s first road victory of the season according to Cuse.com schedule.

Syracuse Lacrosse continues their road trip next Saturday at rival John’s Hopkins at 1pm. The Orange according to Inside Lacrosse Rankings are ranked 6th heading into the matchup while the Bluejays are 7th.
