In their bowl projections for the 2014-15 college football season that were released on Wednesday, Sporting News has the Syracuse Orange football squad in two different bowl games, matched up against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Duck Commander Independence Bowl in one and against Indiana in the Detroit Bowl in the other.
We here at Inside the Loudhouse are not sure if there is a mistake, so we thought we would bring you both as news for you team The Independence Bowl has been played since 1976 and this year will slate an ACC team (like Syracuse) against an SEC program (like Mississippi State). Last year, Arizona throttled ACC program Boston College 42-19 on December 31st in the bowl game. Both teams were 7-5 heading into the matchup, so that gives a ballpark estimate of what record Sporting News thinks the Orange will have at the end of the year. The game is played at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana. This year will mark the inaugural year of the Detroit Bowl, which is still waiting on sponsor. The Detroit Lions announced a six-year partnership with the ACC in August of 2013 to have an annual bowl game at Ford Field.
Sporting News has nine ACC teams, counting Syracuse just once, projected to play in bowl games, including Clemson in the Orange Bowl and Florida State in the four team playoff, losing their semifinal matchup.
