It is a great day for all Syracuse and Georgetown basketball fans as both schools announced on Tuesday that they will renew their rivalry once every season for four years starting during the 2015-2016 season, ESPN’s Andy Katz reports.
The deal will alternate home court between the two teams, starting in Washington D.C. for the first game and then at the Carrier Dome in Central New York during the 2016-2017 season.
These old school rivals did not meet this past season, but did play three times in the final season of the “old” Big East. The Hoyas took both regular season meetings that year, the first by overcoming a then record crowd of 35,012 at the Carrier Dome and then shut down the Orange in D.C. with a 61-39 win. The Orange did get their revenge in the last meeting in the Big East tournament, winning their semifinal game 58-55 in overtime.
