Former Syracuse basketball star Hakim Warrick and his squad TGYTAL earned a huge victory in their first round match of The Basketball Tournament at Philadelphia University on Friday, a tournament which awards the winning team $500,000.
Warrick led his team with 34 points as they beat the Olivet Nazarene University Tigers, 91-84. Warrick shot 13-26 from the field, including 1-5 from beyond the arc, and added ten rebounds. TGYTAL, which stands for Take Your Game to Another Level, plays again on Saturday in Philadelphia against the Illinois Hoopville Warriors.
Other notable players on Warrick’s squad are Reggie Williams, Marshall Henderson and Lenzelle Smith Jr. Henderson, the former Ole Miss standout, and Warrick were two of just five players to play in Friday’s game for TGYTAL. Williams, a former teammate of Warrick’s in Charlotte, and Smith, a recent Ohio State graduate, did not play. Henderson added 13 points and six assists to help lead the team to Saturday’s round 2 game.
